The downtown area of Bowling Green is full of life as well as great needs. Having a state university of nearly twenty thousand students within walking distance of both a center of business and the majority of government funded housing presents an opportunity to provide a unique ministry that has the potential to reach across social, economic, ethnic, and international barriers. From our very beginnings, Christ Fellowship Church has been committed to building a healthy church that would, by God’s grace, seek to reach this downtown community for Christ.
The idea of a church plant in downtown Bowling Green came first to Brian Curtis and Lance Parrott in the fall of 2006. As they began to pray and seek the Lord’s will, they felt him leading them to start this new church. A love for missions and a love for the church would come together through the means of church planting.
After receiving the blessing and support of area churches, being approved through the Kentucky Baptist Covenant as a High Impact church plant, and having Jody Sledge join the leadership team, Christ Fellowship Church officially launched on February 1st, 2009. Nearly two hundred friends, family, and other brothers and sisters in Christ gathered to witness 18 charter members covenant together and start Christ Fellowship Church.
Since that first Sunday, we have sought to be faithful to the Lord Jesus, to build up his church, and to reach downtown Bowling Green for Christ. We have seen God’s faithfulness and mercy us over these past six years. We have grown to nearly a hundred and fifty members. We have six faithful deacons. We have seven Community Groups. We have seen may people from the downtown community become a part of the family at Christ Fellowship. We have had members from ten different nationalities and have baptized new Christians from seven different nationalities as well.
We are not a perfect church. But God is growing us and helping us to fulfill his mission in downtown Bowling Green. He is making us into a community of all people.
